] Does Lady Susan have a home of her own? Presumably, Vernon Castle was sold 6 years ago (give or take). Where were she and her husband living in the meantime? And why does she have (apparently) no place to live now?

________

In Persuasion when the Elliots outspent their income, they had to move to Bath, in rented quarters. LS says that she cannot possibly pay for her daughter's education at London (although she probably chose the most expensive place that could satisfy her other criteria). It's possible that she is too poor to get a place of her own, or is just sponging off of her friends, or just doesn't want to take a place. She lived with the Manwarings on purpose, it seems, to attract Mr. Manwaring, and make his wife miserable. She then removed to Churchill, possibly to ingratiate herself with her rich brother-in-law. Maybe she was hoping to get some money from him, or at least live there rent-free, until she married a rich man again.
