My favourite Hardy heroe

so far is the reddleman (I wish I remembered his name right now) in The Return to the Native... he migh be a secondary character but most of his actions are decisive to the story... I like how he tries to makes things easier for Thomasin (sp?) and the way he is determined not to let Eustacya (BTW, I wonder where he picked up those names, agh!) steal Wildeve from her.
I think one of the reasons I didn't find TROTN depressing (even if it is gloomy) is because I disliked Eustacya very much...I felt a little pity for Cliff... but not much because he'll enjoy being a preacher; after all he needed some purpose in his life and he got one. :-)
