Back to the LibraryI would like to recommend a delightful novel entitled JACKIE BY JOSIE by Caroline Preston (Simon & Schuster, 1997). Both funny and poignant, this book details one summer in the life of Josie Trask, who takes on a temporary job of researching the life of the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis for a celebrity biographer. Jackie's life helps Josie to work through some of her own struggles with an imperfect marriage
and a stalemated doctoral dissertation. A favorite passage of mine is a flashback in which Josie, then a camp counselor, traces her decision to become a teacher to her experience of reading PRIDE AND PREJUDICE out loud to her thirteen-year-old campers.
