Anna Karenin

I've just finished part one of this, and am very proud of myself. But I'm shocked by how easy a read it is... a little text book like, because it's translated, and they are often a little dryer, but the story is wonderful. THe thing that I find amazing about it is how little I judge the characters. If Oblonsky were in another book, I would have condemed him right from the start for his adultry, but right now, I still like him. And even Anna, who, along with Veronsky, has made Kitty an invalid is still a likable character. Not as much as her brother, granted, but still not horrible. And niether is V. for that matter. I'm not saying that they are perfect, or that LT makes me think that their actions are okay, but it's almost as if I don't really care what they do, because I'm just enjoying the ride.
As far as the language goes, I keep comparing it to A Room With A View which I read recently and I really see what a differance it makes to have a book written in the original language. A few months ago, I might not have noticed so much.
