I thought for sure that it was rape. Tess didn't like or trust Alec, why would she consent to sex with him? She barely knew what it was.
As for why she stayed after the event, I think it was for the same reason she stayed after just one day. She still felt responsible for her family so she sacrificed her own peace of mind and comfort to be miserablely used by Alec D'Urberville.
But I have a different question: why did Tess never get into a conversation with the old, blind Mrs. D'Urberville about who she was or her family?
