] . . .according to my dictionary. (Again I'm being sent to the dictionary a lot with this book.)
My edition comes with extensive footnotes to help decipher the Wessex dialect. I have been reading while keeping one thumb in the back of the book to look up things like Battle Abbey Roll, diment, volk, cwoffer, zid, etc. The last book I had to translate so much was The Name of the Rose! ;-)
