As far from "Tess" as possible

Took a break from reading to watch a video my husband checked out "Belle Epoch," a Spanish movie. Morally, it was as far from "Tess" as possible, with four sisters seducing the delighted hero. Their lives weren't ruined. In fact, the hero married one of them.
I just finished "Phase the Fourth" last night and realized that "Tess" has all the hallmarks of a Greek tragedy. She can't fight fate or escape the ramifications of her past actions.
