Back to the Library"Tartan trews" are trousers made from material of a tartan pattern. They did have plaid pants in the 1970's but "trews" have been around for centuries and were worn by the ancient Celts millenia ago and are not always of a tartan pattern but usually wool, I think, and somewhat tight fitting, at least in the legs.
