Nancy Mitford and La Macarena

I have just finished reading The Pursuit of Love and Love in a Cold Climate by Nancy Mitford and imagine my surprise at this quote from LiaCC:
"Isn't it always loveley weather and everything wonderful on postcards? This was a picture of a glorious girl called La Macarena and the funny thing is this La Macarena is the literal image of horrible Polly herself..."
Well, silly me; I thought the macarena was a dance that was popular a while back. I know it was named after a dancer...any connection here?
