] In letter 9 we finally hear from Mrs. Johnson, and if this letter is any indication, I think LS may have learned her trade at the feet of the master.
I don't find Mrs. Johnson to be at all Lady Susan's intellectual equal, or even her manipulative equal. She seems to take all her cues from Lady Susan, rerouting mail, visiting gentlemen, duping her husband, but all of this is at Lady Susan's behest. Mrs. Johnson is merely following instructions. I get the feeling that she is as much under Lady Susan's spell as everyone else.
