] ] To all Wuthering Heights haters.... Yes, it is much easier to identify with the characters in P&P but the uncivilized manner of the characters in WH makes for a much more intresting and thought provoking novel.
] I have difficulty with the idea that Wuthering Heights is the better novel based on it's pseudo "depth". It's obsessive behavior and nothing less. I will never concede that it is a love story. Love does not manifest itself the way Heathcliff or Cathy did. Heathcliff was mean and abusive, and Catherine was selfish and self-centered. they were obsessed with each other, but not in love. They were one dimensional characters, and quite predictable. One does not need to write about dark and morose topics to be a better author. I enjoy Charlotte Bronte and Anne Bronte, but will alsways consider Wuthering Heights to be the most overrated book.
Have you read all of the novels by the Bronte sisters?
Personally I love Wuthering Heights, the part where Catherine is describing her love for Heathcliff as the rocks, enduring forever, but her love for Edgar Linton as foliage is so beautiful.
I also enjoy Anne Bronte, Agnes Grey was amazing, The Tennant was equally good, and i love both her poetry and Emily Bronte's.
I liked Jane Eyre, Shirley was okay. I didn't really like either The Professor or Villette. I personally find Anne Bronte under rated and Charlotte Bronte overrated.
Because I said I liked WH better is not an attack on P&P. I don't like the fact that it seems to have been taken that way. I really like P&P, and I like Jane Austen. I prefer Emily Bronte's book Wuthering Heights to Pride and Prejudice, that's all.
As to it's being deeper based on a dark theme. deeper is not necessarily the best adjective, I just found myself more involved with WH than with P&P.
