Back to the Library ] To all Wuthering Heights haters.... Yes, it is much easier to identify with the characters in P&P but the uncivilized manner of the characters in WH makes for a much more intresting and thought provoking novel.

I have difficulty with the idea that Wuthering Heights is the better novel based on it's pseudo "depth". It's obsessive behavior and nothing less. I will never concede that it is a love story. Love does not manifest itself the way Heathcliff or Cathy did. Heathcliff was mean and abusive, and Catherine was selfish and self-centered. they were obsessed with each other, but not in love. They were one dimensional characters, and quite predictable. One does not need to write about dark and morose topics to be a better author. I enjoy Charlotte Bronte and Anne Bronte, but will alsways consider Wuthering Heights to be the most overrated book.
