] Still, these books are glimpses into other places and ways of thinking, and when books are as good as "Unbearable Lightness of Being" then the translators are doing something right.

On an entertaining side note, one of my professors was Kundera's translator for Unbearable Lightness & he said that Kundera wanted to call it "Karenin's Smile" in English because he was afraid that we American's wouldn't get his title--fortunately, Heim refused to change the title! (He just said, "Well, I'm not going to translate it if it's called 'Karenin's Smile.'")
