Because she's so good.....

Back to the LibraryI used to love her for her wit and her wonderful characters when I was a teenager. And her happy endings. Later I got to appreciate the consistency with which she constructed her novels, her logic, her morality and her kindness. Now I still love her for all those things, but also because..

She's still the best damn writer ever. I can read her books over and over again, one after the other, or just the same one, ten times in one month. Whenever I read another author, whether it's just mindless trash or some 'great book' that you cannot survive without reading, I come back to her with a sense of relief. She's just the best release from the cares of the world, the easiest and most palatable way to improve one's mind and heart, the greatest friend when human friends are out of contact, the greatest, gentlest, teaser and she sits in the back of my brain in almost every action and thought of my day.

I don't feel this way about Shakespeare, and I have not read Dostoyevsky yet. I'm actually quite happy to stick to Jane.
