] What are your husbands, wives or significant others reading??
I just managed to get myself to this board today. I've been so wrapped up in S&S, P&P, P & E and have a limited amount of time online - because my youngest wants to use it most of the time - that it has taken me awhile. I have really enjoyed this question and it's responses. My husband reads Reader's Digest each month and generally prefers television over books. My two teenagers - both boys - were taught at home. We went the phonics route although I noticed the youngest preferred to learn words by sight.
The one thing I have never said no to - was the purchase of reading material...be it comics, magazines, books, etc. I thought my oldest was going to be the reader of the two, but I was wrong. It turns out now that he reads only if he has to, unless it's about the Beatles. The youngest turned 15 this year and had read so a series of books that was below his "reading level" but I didn't complain because he was reading! All of a sudden this summer he started reading Star Wars novels that are about 300 pages long....it has utterly amazed me! I guess I'm relaying this for the benefit of those parents who are wondering if there children will ever want to read. John is like his dad and prefers movies and tv. Hopefully, Daniel will continue to be like me and prefer to read....that is of course if I can get him off of the computer every now and then! =)
