differences at a young age

In response to The Matthew Effect and reading (longish and a bit academic), written by Linden on July 30, 1998 at 20:58:46

Back to the Library There's some research (e-mail me for references if you wish) which shows that, in Grade 5, the top 10% of readers read 10 times as much as the average, and 100 times as much as the bottom 10% - and this is in class hours, so it doesn't count the masses of books that the voracious readers consume at home.ze=1>

I'm sorry that the differences are so extreme so early, especially as reading is related (I assume) not just to pleasure but to future educational and economic success.
