Crystal Thatcher has a series set in the depression. The first one is called, "The Dark Didn't Catch Me." Another for the older ones is called "Paper Moon" by Joe Brown. They made a movie of it with Tatum, 'member? ;-)
The original title was "Addie Pray." It is much better than the movie. A book I really love is called "Adopted Jane" but it is set in the 10s, not the 20s but it is so good, I just couldn't resist mentioning it!
