the Spanish paper El PAÍS included among the best 20th C. novels (in all languages): Lord of the Rings (Tolkien), A Hundred Years of Solitude (G García Márquez) and In Search of the Lost Time (Foucault).
And Tolkien is not even included in this list. So, their being the 100 best is really relative.
And it ranks "To the Lighthouse" higher than "Lord Jim"! tsk tsk
