] what is the plot of this novel?
The maing character is a young woman born in the 1950s to a highly dysfunctional family in York. She makes sense of her own experience by describing the history of her mother's family, going back to the 1890's, and during the first and second world wars. The plot kind of zips back and forwards a bit.
The main story is basically the story of the young girl's childhood. But there is a mystery... and it takes right till the end to work it out.
