] ] ] Jane Austen's World; The Life and Times of England's Most Popular Author by Maggie Lane.
] This is a nice book. It has has some wonderful pictures including illustrations from Jane Austen's time and photographs from all the adaptations. But it is not just a picture book; there is some real substance to the text. Although it is not a scholarly work, it is well researched and interesting.
It is very well worth purchasing, and like others have said, has a lot of interesting information. For example, there are sections on courtship, music, theatre, popular card games, travel, the Royal family, the slave trade and much, much more, all of which are constantly referenced to the context of JA's novels.
I have another book which is good, too called Austen Country by Tom Howard. It has many photos of everywhere Jane lived and places she was known to have visited as well as accompanying text.
