No way he could do it. According to Argentine law, property owned before marriage is the sole property of the woman (in this case, or the man). ;-)
Actually, my main objection is that Lizzy did enjoyed Wickham's company. He was fun, entertaining and had good manners. It is only in the long-run that he becomes a dangerous man. Wickham is good for an acquaintance (a very short and recent one).
If you were to meet him at Las Vegas, you would spend a great time. If you continued your relationship with him, you would be in trouble.
