Olive's Poem to Bosie

Posted by Marie-Bernadette on June 23, 1998 at 21:06:39:

Back to the Library Here is the poem that my ancestress Olive Custance wrote for Bosie (Yes, that's Oscar Wilde's Bosie; Olive married him after that affair).

TO MY HUSBAND
(Dedication to the Blue Bird)

I sing the joy and sorrow of the world,
The strange and secret histories of the heart;
I am a dreamer, and each day my dreams
Go out and kiss the eyes of love grief,
The laughing mouth of love. I have bowed down
Before the light of beauty all my life,
Ane now, O poet passionate and brave,
O lover with the beautiful sad face,
Like a shy child I bring you all my songs.

-- "Wild Olive"
