I should have liked HC to really love Fanny, and her to realize that such a lively, masculine man might bring a little spark to her dull life. Of course, Jane knows best.

Someone wrote a retelling of MP where Fanny and Edmund are joined with the Crawford of their choice. I think I'd like to read it. Did you ever notice how JA become more and more disenchanted with the gentry after this novel where she restores the gentry to its "proper place"? I think if she written it later in life maybe the outcome would have been better.

Then again, we would have lost "let other pens dwell..."
