I think this is a good point. I finally came to terms w/ Henry Crawford when I realized that while I wanted him to deserve Fanny (and win her), he never did. He tried as hard as he was able, but he had never learnt discipline, etc. So, while he may have actually loved Fanny, he didn't deserve her. (And Jane Austen wouldn't have given one of her heroines to a man who didn't deserve her 100%.)
