I agree with the critic who said that one of the great things about her was that she did not deal in fiends and angels - all her bad characters have their likeable points -
Let's hear a list of Mrs Norris' likeable points :)
(and Lady Catherine de Bourgh's for that matter, or Mr. Collins')
Yet none of these are fiends; they are all too recognizably human. There must be some criterion for non-fiendishness, other than having "likeable" points.
