Back to the Library ] Actually, what I really dislike about him is that he is always judging other people's character, assessing their moral vices and virtues. And I certainly dislike those little tete-a-tete with Fanny, where both are intent on dissecting Mary's or anybody else's character. (and mind you, I do like Fanny and dislike Mary)

I agree here. He seems to need to see himself as others see him and become a little less judgmental. Have you noticed how he criticizes Mary for speaking ill of her uncle in company and then a little later on he and Fanny indulge in a criticism of Mary's brother-in-law while Mary is in the room?
