Back to the Library ] I've been away from Pemberley for ages, but I've been carrying a clipping around since February that I wanted to share with any of the Possession readers checking in (hi, Kate! At least I know you're there).

Hi JE - great to hear from you!

] The manuscript was written in 1898 and concerns Twain's opinions on copyright issues. The article describes its great importance to the study of Twain and copyright law, but what I loved was the story of the discovery. A graduate student, Siva Vaidhyanathan, dug the yellowed, marked up document out of a box labelled "Copyright." He is quoted:

] "I kept thinking, 'This is a major discovery' And then my next thought would be 'No, it can't be. I'm just a graduate student."

] Amazing things do happen, even to obscure graduate students laboring in dusty libraries. Perhaps one of JA's letters will turn up after all!
]

Great story. And yes, you never know!
