Back to the LibraryI must have the same edition of the book that you do - I recognize every one of those points from the afterword in my copy. One of these days, I'm just going to remove those last 10 or so pages from the novel. I happen to like Fanny, although the writer of the afterword obviously preferred Mary, and the fact that he thought the book sub-Austen-standard because Edmund married Fanny definitely made me grit my teeth. He almost makes it sound as if JA wrote this in a spirit of penance or something. So I heartily agree with you - the afterword is definitely one to put you out of sorts.
