It might have loosened her up a bit. But it's hard to say, after all she was only 18. Anyone who would have given her more confidence to speak up would have been good. Edmund didn't really change her, except that she worshipped him because he was nice to her. (But he placated everyone?) She may have had a bit of a coloured view of Edmund.
I guess I'm not good at making sense, sorry.
