Fanny's Choice

For me the major problem with MP is that poor Fanny has such a poor choice of men. Neither Crawford (even if he had reformed) or Edmund compare with Wentworth or Darcy and I've never finished the story without feeling that she is cheated somehow.I like Edmund - he's the kind of guy you could really rely on in an emergency but I've never thought he was fit for an Austen heroine. I think if JA had reformed Crawford, if Mansfield had cured him as Mrs Grant hoped, he might have been a better deal. Might have been.
I wish Fanny had been allowed to expand a little, escape Mansfield and be something other than Edmund Bertram's greatest fan.
