A Question about Fanny Price

Posted by Golda on May 14, 1998 at 16:32:22:

Back to the LibraryI'm pleased to learn that Mansfield Park is discussed on this board since it's not in demand by enough Pemberlians to justify its own board.

Since the topic of Fanny Price and Edmund Bertram was recently raised by Bonny, I have another question. Why have I picked up only negative vibes about MP, and Fanny in particular, in scattered postings throughout the RoP? Is it because she's a wuss? (I got this spelling from the the New English Words section of Microsoft Bookshelf '96.) Is it Austen's writing in this particular novel? Is it something else? I can list some elements of the novel that I didn't care for, but since we're all such great JA fans, I can't believe that it is worthy of this treatment.
