] she seems a little more cold and calculating than on first impression.
Whenever I decide she is really cold and calculating, she does something that makes no sense at all. For instance, she says she wants to reform the Starkadder because she wants to live in a neat place, but no sooner she arranges everythin she leaves. So, you see, I think she believes herself cold and calculating, but deep down she is not. Perhaps she is unable to show her feelings, I don't know. Like with Mr. Mybug, on reaching the ball she feels disgusted by his aspect, but then she reflects that she could have got him a ticket and feels sorry for him. Actually I think the only aspect of her personality that I do dislike is her "superiority complex".
But, I sort of agree with you. I only read the book once, but re-read some parts that I though interesting or while searching some paragraph for a post, some things she does which I first did not bother me, later did. As if the coldness had been covered by the comedy.
Do I make sense?
By the way, for a person who despises party, she seemed to have enjoyed the ball quite a lot. What do you thing is the reason?
