Back to the Library ] Somebody said before (I cannot remember who, and I could not find the post; I think it was you Kate, but I am not sure) that racial slurs are not found in English writers from the XIX. That set me thinking. And my question is, what about Charlotte Brontė?

awful, isn't it? I think the comment I made was that such comments were not found in JA!! Clearly she was somewhat unusual. However, given the small, and homogenous world about which she wrote, one can't assume that she did not share the xenophobia which many others exhibited.
