For someone who is ostensibly gathering material for a book, Flora really has an aversion to poetry. I guess maybe poetry can't speak to someone so practical and orderly. It's almost as if she feels poetry can ruin Elfine's life!
I think the movie Flora was more the writer than the book Flora.
