Back to the Library ] ] It's been so long, but isn't Viper a gargantuan horse? According to the book, he is 19 hands high. I seem to recall that 10 hands high is kind of regulation for a full-grown horse, so Viper is twice as big???? (I even tried to do a simulation on my wall.)

] ] Any horsewomen out there?

] A hand is 4 inches high. The dividing line between a horse size and a pony size is fourteen and a half hands, or 58 inches -- at the withers, which is the little bump where the back and the neck connect.

] 19 hands is still pretty big.

Four inches is just over 10cm. So at 19 hands, that horse was 1.9 metres high at the withers (even slightly more). That's one BIG horse!
