Back to the Library ] I always thought she was using the "her" in those passages not as a neutral but because they were Aunt Ada's thoughts.


Well, I first though that she used her in reference to Elfine ('cause she was late in that first dinner) but the second one was used by Amos in reference to his flock, so unless all of them were women, I see not point in his using "her". And if the second one is used for the "neutral form" so must have been the case of the first.
