] It may be that Stella, as a working woman in the twenties, obviously committed to more independence for women (hence the contraception) would have identified herself as a "feminist" in the understanding of that term at the time.



Perhaps, but I think it is in Westwood that she derides feminists as unwomanly. Unfortuanately the book lives in Miami or I'd look up the chapter.
