Not at all. It fairly leaped off the page at me and then to be followed up with the Mayerburg thing. Was antisemitism prevalent? Of course. What you have is the post-WWI resurgence coupled with their ssociation with Bolshevism as well. This did not help their image.

I don't think it had anything to do with intellectuals, who as a group they are being satirized by SG. I think the mere fact that she brings in the Jew-shop would support her more generalized antisemitic leanings.
