] I think what happened is that Judith, who is Ada's daughter, married one of her Starkadder cousins (Amos) - they obviously have a bit of a thing for intermarriage. It probably all part of the plot to keep CCF with the Starkadders.

I'm pretty sure Ada Doom actually married Fig Starkadder, whose picture hung above the fireplace. I agree with you that Judith probably married a Starkadder cousin. But the relationships are confusing. I had trouble realizing that Elfine was Seth's and Reuben's sister until just before the party. At first I thought she was Adam's daughter (and I had that impression when I saw the movie). But then it mentioned Elfine's name as "Starkadder" and later mentioned that Adam had no children. It took me some time to place Elfine. I'm still trying to figure out Rennet ('She'm own daughter to Michah's Susan by her first marriage. Her marriage to Mark, I mean. . .' [Harkaway])
