Picturesque names

Posted by Kay on April 21, 1998 at 14:39:43:

Back to the LibraryOne reason I enjoy reading the book is Gibbons' use of picturesque names. We have the "animal" names such as Starkadder, Lambsbreath, Beetle and "Mybug," and other descriptive names: Smiling and Murther (reminds me of Shakespeare) and of, course, Doom. And these are only the last names! The first names of many of the Starkadders and the Pioneers-O are a hoot, too.

I guess this is really a week for discussing preliminaries and side issues. The real story seems to start in chapter 8. I'll have trouble holding back until next week.
