Flora likes to go out to dinner so she can show off and talk about herself, and Emma also likes to be the centre of attention.
Each has an older woman/friend/confidante/ in Mrs. Smiling and Mrs. Weston respectively.
I thought it was interesting how the novel Emma opens with them discussing how the wedding was, and CCF with them discussing how the funeral was.
