I don't know of any other theories, but then I haven't looked for them either. But I think it's clear that writing was a very important part of her life, and had been since she was a young girl. When she was settled in Chawton, she began writing again, again making it an important part of her every day life. I can't imagine giving up something you love that much for 10 yrs for no particular reason... whether is was depression, lack of privacy or something else, we'll never know, of course, but it does sound like a mystery.
