] Cassie, I gather from various sources that there is actually a religious connection for the authors: ie that they _were_ using the book to do a bit of preaching. So you were right to feel that you were being preached to.

Firstly, I want to register my admiration for those who actually managed to read D&D. I read the section on their web page and it was more than enough. As for the preaching there was a religious connection for JA too but she tended to reserve preachiness for her less attractive characters, e.g. Aunt Norris.
