] I have read other articles where they DON'T feel that Tom Lefroy was the love of her life. Very confusing. Although I do feel that Jane being unable to even ask about him 3 years later is indeed very telling.

I think neither Tomalin nor I meant to imply that Tom Lefroy was the love of Jane Austen's life, but only that he was her first love.
