In response to So is it worth it, then?, written by Helen on March 19, 1998 at 11:22:22

I think that she would have written even if she had married Tom. I write more now than before I was married. If she had a lot of children she probably would not have written as much during the years they were growing up, but I think she would have still found opportunities to write. I think her writing would have been just as good, but would have had a different 'flavour' to it. I don't subscribe to the idea that an artist, of either words or canvas, need suffer to produce anything of worth; on the contrary, I think that happiness enhances the creative processes (assuming she would have been happy with Tom). The experience of the marriage relationship, happy or not, would have added another dimension to her works.
