The thing about Lady Susan, is that at the end, almost no-one is really hurt. Her Daughter, her young admirer, silly Sir James, even her married lover, are sadder and wiser, but otherwise quite well off! I cannot let go of the idea that JA set out to write another Les Liasons
but couldn't countenance having the sweet young thing dying in a madhouse, a dead bad guy,(or bad woman)hoist by their own pétard,etc. etc.

But you are right..she deserves a dagger in the back, doesn't she!Perhaps she could be made to put a big red "A" on her dress, and be put in the pillory every day for a month.....
