I can go back six generations in my family, and not one generation seems to have died in the place that they were born. :-( The present generations show no sign of settling down either! ;-)

The families who do stay put for hundreds of years do tend to be those who own large lumps of land,aand seem to be very few and far between. So why do we have this mistaken , nostalgic assumption that the "good old days" involved not moving?Perhaps those that did not move were not the "Meritocrats"
