This is coming from nowhere because I have not actually read Lady Susan, but was it not a little risque? I think I remember it being so, at least a biographer mentioning it that way. If that was the case, then perhaps that is why Jane decided not to further its development. She did apparently have a findness for it though. And Pride and Prejudice (or was it Sense & Sensibility! my mind is not all there) was also written in her youth and required rewriting before it was sent to a publisher ... again.
