] Does anyone have any thoughts on why JA did not have Lady Susan published? Claire Tomalin mentions that it must have meant something to her because she kept it. I wonder why she didn't have it published under a pen name.

And later on, it would have needed a lot of rewriting and expanding to publish as a book. Perhaps Jane was busy with other manuscripts or simply thought that a whole novel-length story of Lady Susan would be a little more Lady Susan than people could take! I imagine it would be hard to sustain that kind of character for 400 pages! Though, of course I love her! ;-)
