This is what I loved about the Tomalin bio. She manages to breathe so much life into JA's quite interesting family that we get an oblique view of Jane herself. The details of Jane's life may be rather thin, but she was surrounded by so much life. Anyone who learns about her family and still thinks Austen lived a quiet and prim life hasn't been paying attention!
